Not only in Christian Democracy, the waters are agitated about presidential definition. In the Socialist Party they are also in the hour of definitions, and until the headquarters of the collective will come the leaders of Nuevo Trato to give their support to former minister Paula Narváez.
The group will go to the PS headquarters to give their support to Narváez, lowering the presidential position of Deputy Pablo Vidal, on the grounds that Bachelet’s formervocera is the only figure in democratic socialism that can be imposed in primaries.
The gesture is a sign to strengthen the PS presidential candidacy, which now adds support from the group that brings together former DR, the Liberal Party, in addition to formerDC Claudio Castro, the mayor of Renca who was the first majority in the past municipals.
The PS lives on key hours, because from 8:30 a.m. the party has called on its Political Commission to figure out what to do. Internal pressure is strong. Socialist sectors in previous days have tried to stop the idea of the party helmsman, Alvaro Elizalde, of turning towards the primary of the Broad Front and the PC, while others support idea.
“The PS must change its alliance policy and set its domicile on the left, the people of Chile spoke clearly in the elections,” Mps Maya Fernández wrote this morning.
The PS decision could involve the break of the strategic alliance with the DC since before the 88th plebiscite and which meant the backbone of all the governments of the Concertation and the New Majority, through all the electoral negotiations for parliamentarians and municipalities.
