Production began on the third season of “His Dark Materials”, the series based on the final novel in Philip Pullman’s trilogy, “The Amber Spyglass”. This was announced by HBO through a statement. The plot will follow Will (Amir Wilson), the bearer of the subtle knife, and Lyra (Dafne Keen), the prophesied girl, who will travel through multiple worlds to meet and protect each other. The new cast of the third season includes Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Commander Ogunwe and Jamie Ward as Father Gomez. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison and Chipo Chung are the rebellious angels Balthamos, Baruch and Xaphania; while Ama will be played by Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe. Also returning to the cast are Will Keen as Father President MacPhail, Jade Anouka as Route Skadi and Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala.
The season will again be directed by executive producers Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch for Bad Wolf. Screenwriters Jack Thorne and Francesca Gardiner will be executive producers, and Amelia Spencer will join as a writer and consulting producer. Production will once again take place at Wolf Studios Wales and at some locations in Wales and England. “By the time we started the first season we had already plotted the three novels to know the direction in which we were heading. Every detail and character within this incredible work of fiction has been analyzed and discussed for 4 years, and finally reaching the multiple worlds of The Amber Spyglass is exciting,” executive producer Dan McCulloch said in a statement.
