Mateo Bustos Pecaut was born in Laprida, is 24 years old and is already defined on social networks as “the viral triathlete of the moment”. It’s that his image traveled the world. Pecaut had everything to win the triathlon of Sagunto, in the Community of Valencia (Spain), however, meters from the finish line, with the desire to celebrate, he slowed down. As a result the representative of the Multisport Club Benitatxell was surpassed by Germán Cister who stayed with the first place. That scene, like a blooper, went viral and resulted in a cascade of comments and jokes. Despite the bad drink Mateo preferred to take it with humor and on his Instagram account expressed: “Better to stay with the positive things that this left me”. In the video, two women are heard talking: “But how is he so dumb?” one of them asks. Today the young man can explain what happened: “I trusted myself, the emotion of being 3 meters from the goal played a trick on me. Emotions cross, at that moment I felt the fruits of so much effort and sacrifice in every training, I thought of my old man on Father’s Day, and my grandfather who was celebrating his birthday.”
The unusual thing is also that Germán, the Spaniard who finished first, asked him for forgiveness for having passed him in the final stretch and having stolen the race but Mateo has things clear: “Who crossed the line won and that is what is good, it is the competition,” he wrote on his social networks and thanked those who viralized it because his life and career continues.
Now, the Argentine is mentalized in what is to come: he will compete again in the framework of the third round of the Club League.
