Elisa Loncón, after being elected as president of the Constitutional Convention, gave her first words, before leading the voting process for the vice presidency of the instance.
“A great greeting to the people of Chile, from the north to Patagonia,” said the academic and Doctor of Linguistics, who added that “we are here to thank the support to the different coalitions that gave their trust and placed their dream in the call made by the Mapuche nation to change the history of this country.”
Loncón appealed to a plurinational and multicultural Chile and said he was “very happy for this strength that they give us. It is for all the people of Chile, all sectors, all regions, all peoples and organizations that accompany us.”
“Also for sexual diversity, women who walked against any system of domination. We are installing here a way to be pluralistic, democratic, participatory,” he added.
The president of the Constitutional Convention also said that “this convention will transform Chile into a plurinational, intercultural Chile that does not violate women’s rights, that cleans the waters.”
“This dream is a dream of our ancestors, it is possible to refound this chile, to establish a relationship, between the Mapuche people, the first nations and all the nations that make up this country,” he added.
Upon taking office, Loncón also said that “this convention is going to be participatory, a rotating, collective direction, that gives space to all the sectors represented here, all together we are going to refound this Chile, we have to expand democracy and participation, convene to the last corner of Chile.”
