The Minister of Security of the province of Buenos Aires, Sergio Berni, said that it would be “an honor” and he would “love to represent the interests of the people of Buenos Aires” in the upcoming elections. However, the official clarified that he would be willing to be a candidate for deputy as long as it is not to maintain the “status quo”: “I would love to represent the interests of the people of Buenos Aires. In a conversation with Radio Rivadavia, Berni confirmed the need to make changes within the alliance: “If what is proposed is to continue with the same thing, I am not interested. If we understand that we have to have legislative discussions to give the government the necessary tools to adjust the direction, of course it is a challenge that we are preparing for,” he said.
“But to be a deputy to enter a situation of status quo and that everything remains the same, would be disrespectful to the people of Buenos Aires,” he explained. Asked about the reports that President Alberto Fernandez has been constantly calling for his resignation, Berni downplayed the rumor and attributed it to “operations that they do from Government House.” I’m not worried. It happens because I think differently. I have a different look. Since the pandemic started, I have had a totally different epidemiological view,” he said. Similarly, axel Kicillof’s cabinet member downplayed the differences with the government and said that from this area they do not have to “get angry” with those who think differently.
“Some believe in one-way thinking and are angry. To get angry is to miss an opportunity. If anything makes our front different, it is that we come from different ideological currents and that enhances a political space,” he said. In this regard, he concluded by raising the need to resume dialogue in dissent: “We have to get used to debating different perspectives to draw conclusions. No one owns the absolute truth. Discussions enrich a political space. Far from getting angry, we should listen a little more,” Berni closed.
