translated from Spanish: AMLO criticizes the INE for sanctioning Samuel Garcia

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that the National Electoral Institute (INE) is not doing things right and that its decisions do not give him confidence, this, after the sanction of Samuel Garcia, governor-elect of Nuevo Leon, for propaganda by his wife Mariana Rodriguez.
Yesterday, the General Council of the INE endorsed the fine of 55 million pesos against Samuel Garcia, for the dissemination of photos and still stories on Instagram that Mariana Rodriguez made during the election campaign.

“I feel that they are not doing things well in the @INEMexico, I do not have confidence in these decisions, but they must be respected,” @lopezobrador_ said.

In this regard, López Obrador said he does not trust the decisions of the electoral body and recalled that he also took away morena’s candidacies in Guerrero and Michoacan.
“I feel that they are not doing things well in the INE, in the Court, I do not have confidence in those decisions, the truth, but we must respect them.”
Lopez Obrador said it’s normal for Samuel Garcia’s wife to have made publications on her husband’s behalf.

“They (influencers) must participate, like everyone else, without limits. And it’s the most normal thing for a supporter, more so if it’s the wife, to speak well of her husband. Whether or not you’re going to charge that’s another thing. I see this as more politicking,” he said.
The president pointed out that the resolutions are contradictory, and even excessive.
“We have to see who is there maneuvering, that is why we have to renew the INE and the Court, so that there is seriousness,” he said.
With 8 votes in favor and 3 against, the councilors approved the fine against the future governor with 27.8 million pesos, plus 60 thousand for the appearance of the influencer in a video that was not reported as campaign expenses; it also sanctions his party, Movimiento Ciudadano, with 55.4 million pesos.
The General Council of the INE also endorsed the fine of 40 million pesos, as well as the withdrawal of radio and television times for one year to the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico, for the promotion of influencers in the electoral ban.
