The national government convened the Wage Council to discuss an increase in the Minimum, Vital and Mobile Wage that accompanies the increase in inflation expected for this year. The meeting will be held at the end of the month and was confirmed by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.
Through a resolution, the ministry resolved to convene “the members of the National Council of Employment, Productivity and the Minimum, Vital and Mobile Wage, to meet in ordinary plenary session on September 30, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. (fifteen hours), to be held through a virtual platform.”
This call had been advanced hours before by the head of the labor portfolio, Claudio Moroni. “In September we are going to call for a renegotiation of the minimum wage; it is a complex parity but the two times we negotiated it we got the votes, to anticipate the increases planned for later months and thus get it to beat inflation … the value we arrived at, however, looks short; so in September we will renegotiate it,” he confirmed in statements to AM750.

In the Salary Council convened by the management of Alberto Fernández, the Government and representatives of the trade union centers and business chambers agreed on a 35% increase, in seven tranches, to take it next February to $ 29,160. However, as inflation exceeded official expectations, it was brought forward for this September. At the moment, it is unknown how much the increase in the Minimum Wage will be, although the Government’s will is that it be above inflation. It is estimated that the increase would be around 10% additional by 2021.Currently, the value of the SMVM is well below the total basic basket reported by Indec, with which the poverty and indigence line is measured. According to July figures, the value stands at $67,576.66 for a couple with two minor children. While for indigence, the amount is $ 29,002.86.
