Facebook removed a video where Bolsonaro links vaccines to HIV

On Sunday night, Facebook decided to delete a stream from Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, where he linked COVID-19 vaccines to HIV. In the video, published on Thursday, October 21, Bolsonaro reads a fake news that ensures that people who received the two doses of the vaccines would be developing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. However, he seemed to realize his mistake and limited himself to handing over the headline, asking his followers to look for the rest of the information, because if he read it he could “have problems” with his live.

A Facebook spokesperson quoted by O Globo explained the situation and assured that “our policies do not allow to make claims such as that vaccines against COVID-19 kill or can cause serious harm to people.” While it is the first time that Mark Zuckerberg’s social network downloads a video to the Brazilian president, before it had already done So YouTube and Twitter with videos where he also made false claims. Last Monday, the Brazilian president responded to a question that a user asked him on Facebook regarding his claims, noting that what he did in his live video was read an article in Exame magazine. However, that article dates back to October 2020, when vaccines were being developed, and spoke of an unfounded possibility.
