Minister Delgado confirms 12 detainees on election day, 11 of them for refusing to be members of the table

The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado offered a balance of the security measures during this election day, confirming that so far, 12 people have been arrested, 11 of them for refusing to be members of the table, and another for attempted robbery inside a voting precinct.
“So far we have 12 detainees throughout Chile, 11 of them for refusing to be table members, and one for wanting to steal a television from a classroom in a polling place,” Rodrigo Delgado explained.
The Interior Authority also lamented the death of a person in Punta Arenas: “This person was standing in line at his polling station, and it begins with a decompensation. Finally this person dies, everything indicates that it would be due to a heart problem.”
On the other hand, the Secretary of State assured that the security strategy applied “has been successful,” and maintained that “more than 40,000 troops from both the Armed Forces and the Forces of Order and Security, have managed to execute the security plans perfectly.”
“The security protocols have worked, and we also have to say that during the morning we had three places in Molina, Sagrada Familia and Coelemu places where there were eventually reports of some suspicious objects, all of them discarded,” Delgado added.
Bellolio: “There has been a good participation”
On the other hand, the Minister Spokesman of the Government, Jaime Bellolio said that “so far we have seen that there has been a good participation. We hope that it will continue in the course of this afternoon. We know that many people have had to suffer under the heat, long waits.”
“Today there are more lines on the outskirts and outside the room because of the covid protocol. We know that some people can take a little longer because in 9 regions there are four ballots (presidents, senators, deputies and cores),” added Minister Bellolio.
However, Bellolio clarified that so far there is no participation figure, “but only anecdotal data from some places, but it still needs to continue the rest of the afternoon.”
Finally, the spokesman insisted that sanitary conditions are much more favorable than in the previous elections. We have 13.8 million Chileans with their full vaccination schedule, and 7.6 million with their booster dose, which means that more than 90% of the population has their vaccination schedule.”
