Court decrees preventive detention for two accused for alleged murder of environmental activist Javiera Rojas

The Court of Guarantee of Calama decreed today the precautionary measure of preventive detention for J.P.B.D. and M.L.S., accused of the crimes of femicide and homicide -respectively- of the environmental activist Javiera Rojas, found dead on Sunday, November 28 in an abandoned building in the city located in the Region of Antofagasta.
In the formalization hearing (case 5912-2021), Judge María José Salas accepted the request for precautionary measure made by the Public Ministry, considering that the freedom of the accused represents a danger to the security of society, decreeing an investigation period of 200 days.
According to the persecuting entity, on November 26, the victim, Javiera Rojas Veas, arrived in the company of the two defendants J.P.B.D and M.L.S -the first of them with whom he had a relationship- to a construction called ruco in Antofagasta street in the city of Calama.
In the place he would have held an argument over money issues with the accused, who proceeded to tie her feet and hand, and then beat her repeatedly, They also stabbed her in her lower extremities.
Rojas died in the building after the aggressions, being found on Sunday, November 28, after the revelation of one of the accused to a neighbor.
