The oil spill in Río Negro exceeded 3 million liters

The government of Río Negro confirmed today that the oil spill in the Medanito field, located near the city of Catriel, reached 3200 cubic meters, equivalent to 3.2 million liters. In turn, from the Secretary of Environment and Climate Change of the province, they indicated that the company Oldelval, in charge of the pipeline that broke last Friday, reported the magnitude of the environmental incident today at noon. In addition, the company also presented the provisional environmental remediation plan, although at the moment there are no details, since the measure must be analyzed by the provincial authorities.

It is worth mentioning that two hectares were affected by the failure in the pipeline, which connects the pumping station in Medanito and Puesto Hernández, while the volume of the spill generated a layer about 10 centimeters thick. According to what was published by the newspaper Río Negro, Oldelval reported yesterday that no watercourse was affected by the incident and that it has already collected all the crude oil spilled on the surface. Finally, it was arranged that the company carry out a reforestation in the area to alleviate the extraction of native flora, which was dragged in the cleaning of the land, and that it hire a veterinarian to take care of the fauna of the place.
