Senators to Investigate Alleged Abuses in Secretary’s Detention

Senators of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) created a special commission to investigate probable abuses of authority in the detention of José Manuel del Río Virgen, secretary of the agency, who is accused of intentional homicide qualified by Veracruz authorities.
The members of the board affirmed that this commission will also collect information “on arbitrary acts and acts carried out by the authorities of that place, which have innocent citizens deprived of their liberty,” without specifying other cases.
The Jucopo, chaired by the Morenoite Ricardo Monreal, called on the governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García, and the Judiciary to conduct themselves “in accordance with the law.”

“Given the lack of clarity of the information offered by the state authorities, the parliamentary coordinators asked the Judicial Branch of Veracruz to fully clarify the reasons for the arrest and the evidence it has, so that it acts at all times in accordance with the law and does not lend itself to the fabrication of crimes and political persecution,” published the agency in a statement.

Senators Dante Delgado, of Movimiento Ciudadano; Eduardo Ramirez, of Morena; Julen Rementería del Puerto, del PAN; Beatriz Paredes Rangel, of the PRI; Raúl Bolaños-Cacho Cué, from the PVEM; Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa, of the PRD; and Sasil de León Villard, of the Social Encounter Party, will be the members of the special commission.
La Jucopo defended the trajectory of Juan Manuel del Río Virgen, whom Veracruz authorities link to the murder of the Citizen Movement candidate for mayor of Cazones, René Tovar Tovar, last June.
“There are no facts, evidence or statements that link in any way the teacher Del Río Virgen with any crime, it being absurd that for this reason they intend to link him with this criminal cause,” Monreal read in a statement.

He also maintained that they are concerned about the “decomposition of public life in the state, as well as the probable abuse of power in which the entity is immersed.”
They even affirmed that the arrest warrant against the secretary is “unfounded” because it was requested in writing, when “they must be requested in a hearing before the control judge, so it is invalid.”
Senator Dante Delgado, of Movimiento Ciudadano, said that the Senate itself was violated, because if there was any information, a “request to appear to the alleged accused should have been presented, exercises that were not done because of the artificial nature of the process,” so he said that he is a “political prisoner.”
