Attack “Motonetos” command in San Cristóbal de las Casas

Chiapas.- A group of young motorcyclists called “Los Motonetos” attacked with sticks and stones the command of the Municipal Police in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, to try to rescue three comrades arrested during Christmas.The attack took place during the afternoon of Saturday, December 25, 2021, when “Los Motonetos”, made up of young people aboard motorcyclists and scooters, With sticks and stones, the young people attacked the lattice of access to the command to demand that the police release their three companions, who had been arrested hours before. The three alleged members of “Los Motonetos” were arrested for disturbing public order by staging a fight followed by a shootout in the Primero de Enero neighborhood, north of that municipality in Chiapas.Al interior of the command there were municipal police on duty, who repelled the aggression of the criminals, responding with tear gas until they got them to withdraw from the site. Neither the Municipal Police of San Cristóbal de las Casas nor the Prosecutor’s Office of Chiapas have pronounced on the attack on the command so far. Nor are they reported injured by these facts.” Just last December 15, “Los Motonetos” attacked the offices of Oral Trials in San Cristóbal de las Casas, where they smashed the windows with gunshots and then fled. The group of criminals also set fire to a van owned by the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office, apparently in response to a search of a nightclub, where an alleged member of the criminal group was arrested. The presence of “Los Motonetos” has sown terror among the inhabitants of this municipality of Chiapas since recent months. These are groups of motorcycle gang members linked to drug dealing, who are often involved in various crimes that disturb public order. The authorities do not have information about their origin or structure, but it is believed that there are around five groups of this type, identified as “Los Torres”, “ZN”, “Élite”, “Los Vans”, among others.
