Moyano called for resignations of officials and demanded explanations from Berni

After the confrontation between bars and fans of Independiente with piqueteros who were cutting the Buenos Aires – La Plata highway that ended with the death of a Fan of the Red, from the club they asked for the resignation of all the troops who were in charge of the operation and demanded explanations from Sergio Berni, local Minister of Security. The victim was Juan Calvente, 35 years old and a native of the town of Tigre, who died when he was shot by a firearm, so the club wrote in a statement signed by its president, Hugo Moyano, that “we demand justice for Juan, for his family and his loved ones. We embrace their families and make the club available to obtain truth and justice.”

In addition, they denounced that “those who had to guarantee the safety of the professional squad and the fans in the transfer directed them through the place where they knew that a demonstration was taking place and the cutting of the highway”, and repudiated “the negligence of the police forces and the people in charge of the security operation is inadmissible”. Finally, they demanded resignations and explanations from the authorities: “We demand the immediate resignation of all the officials in charge of the operation and we demand the urgent explanation of Minister Sergio Berni and his Chief of Staff Carlos Montaña.”
