Leandro Fernández returns to Independiente with an apology to the fans

Independiente made official the return of Leandro Fernández, who will undergo the medical review and sign his contract in the coming hours to begin his third cycle at the club. After the announcement, through a video published on the red’s social networks, the striker apologized to the fans after not having closed his first stage at the club in the best way. What happened?? In 2020, the footballer decided not to renew his contract and left with the pass in his possession to Inter Porto Alegre of Brazil. Dear Rojo fans, from the first day I put on the Independiente shirt, I knew my career had changed forever. The greatness of the club, the passion of its fans, the incredible stadium… I was lucky enough to have some of the most beautiful moments as a footballer,” Fernandez begins, as he is seen writing his words in a letter to fans.
And he continues: “Winning the classic by scoring several goals, turning around at the Maracanã and many more. There were also hard moments: my injuries, some bad results and I know that our farewell was not the best. If anyone was disappointed, I want to apologize to them. I always had the best intention and enormous affection and respect for this beautiful institution. Now, it’s time to keep making history together. I go back home, I go back to the King of Cups.” Fernandez, who is coming off the bench from Inter after his loan at Uruguay’s Nacional, was asked by coach Eduardo Dominguez and reached an agreement to seal his bond for a year and a half. It will be his third stage in Independiente, where he played 68 games, scored 18 goals and was crowned champion of the Copa Sudamericana 2017.
