National customs strike announced after relaxation of Covid controls in Paso Los Libertadores: Government ensures total normality

After an assembly, the customs workers announced a national strike in their activities after the government’s decision to “lower the standard” in the testing and control over Covid to truckers at the Los Libertadores border crossing. It should be noted that a few weeks ago the complex closed its doors due to an outbreak of Covid-19.
According to El Mercurio, from the guild they denounce that any carrier that presents a negative PCR is being allowed to enter, including those who have results more than 72 hours in advance in the test. Because of this, customs personnel detail that the examinations are random to the drivers, which, in any case, they consider insufficient.
The national director of the guild, Justo Sánchez, exposed the detection of counterfeits in PCR tests. “Two health officials from the Largomaggiore Hospital (Mendoza) who were selling them were even arrested,” he said.
On the other hand, the National Association of Customs Officials of Chile (Anafach), said that during 8 hours 150 trucks entered, where only 40 antigen tests were applied. Of those, there were 12 positive cases. Which is in addition to the fact that, after 24 hours of work, there are two suspected cases of contagion among the same workers.
The president of Anafach, Mauricio Soudre, said that the measures “adopted by the Government” were “the product of pressure from Argentine truckers,” he said. What was added to the blockade of the passage they made to our country, achieved the intervention of their Foreign Ministry to relax the controls.
For his part, from the Government, the presidential delegate (s) in Los Andes, Raúl Fuhrer, said that everything works normally at the border crossing. “Both users and cargo vehicles have entered in an orderly and inconvenient manner,” he said.
“The services are operating normally, an exhaustive review of the documentation has been carried out and emphasis has been placed on complying with each of the agreements reached with the unions to protect health and well-being,” he concluded.
