We have to accelerate, not pause relations: Spain to Mexico

The government of Spain affirmed that relations with Mexico ask to accelerate and not give them pause, as suggested by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador since February 9.
“Both for our past, for our present and our future, what we have to do is accelerate our relations (with Mexico). Relations are good and we want them to continue moving forward,” Spain’s top diplomat, Jose Manuel Albares, told a news conference.
López Obrador argues his initiative that during past six-year terms there would be “looting” by Spanish companies in Mexico, so he suggested a pause to “respect each other” and that Spain does not see Mexico as “a land of conquest.”

Albores pointed out that about 7,000 Spanish companies operate in Mexico, “giving direct jobs to 300,000 Mexicans and indirect jobs to more than one million Mexicans. He also said that there is a Mexican investment of 25 billion euros in Spain.
After the words of the president of Mexico, the Spanish official also said that the relationship between Spain and Mexico is “strategic, which goes beyond sudden verbal statements or specific words,” and said that his country has not taken actions that justify what the president said.
