Cordoba: 9 people arrested for a new pyramid scam

Seven police officers, a lawyer and an accountant were arrested today in the city of Córdoba in the framework of an investigation for alleged scams and illicit association for more than 30 million pesos to investors who received high interest through the system called ‘pyramidal’, reported a judicial source. The arrests were ordered by the prosecutor of District 1 Shift 3, José Alberto Mana, and were made after ten raids on different homes in the city of Córdoba, “in which important elements of evidence for the cause were kidnapped,” the secretary of that prosecutor’s office, María José López.La judicial official explained that the investigation began several months ago and, so far, it was determined that the maneuver has as victims a “circle of investors composed of policemen”, who were allowed to enter with the condition of attracting new customers, which could be family, friends, acquaintances or neighbors. According to López, investors were invited to invest pesos or dollars, in exchange for a “monthly remuneration in interest of approximately between 30 and 40%.” He also said that so far there are more than 30 victims who denounced that so far they could not recover the capital invested, and added that it is known if there are many more people who entered with the promise to receive that high “illogical” remuneration in relation to what the financial market remunerates. Likewise, the judicial official maintained that an attempt is being made to determine those responsible for capturing the funds, and that so far there are no elements that link the maneuver to the other two cases being investigated, such as Generation Zoe and Adhemar.
