The “tongo” of the ex-republicans who form the Republican caucus

In November last year, MP Johannes Kaiser dispatched one of his many sad phrases. In a tone of irony and burlesque, she questioned the female vote and a mass of criticism fell on her. Among those who quickly came out to distance themselves from the “child symbol” of the provocation in bad taste, was José Antonio Kast himself, for fear that it would affect his presidential campaign.
The immediate consequence was his media resignation from the Republican Party. “After a process of reflection and understanding that my sayings can damage our future, I have made the decision to leave the ranks of the Republican Party indeclinably. I made this decision absolutely voluntarily and without any pressure,” Kaiser said after he was resigned.
Weeks later and after J. A. Kast lost the elections to Gabriel Boric, another distinguished Republican, “the king of fake news”, deputy Gonzalo de la Carrera, also left the ranks of the far-right party. His departure was just as mediatic but also in a victim tone. “I did not resign from Republicans, José Antonio Kast asked me to resign. I’m very sad, I’m not a traitor, I haven’t abandoned anyone,” De la Carrera said in a video uploaded to his social networks.
Thus, both now ex-republicans, arrived on March 11 to Congress to be sworn in as deputies of the Republic. And what was the first thing they did? Announce that they would seek to question Minister Izkia Siches for raising the lawsuits by State Security Law against prisoners of the outbreak, this on behalf of the Republican caucus. But what had they not given up from the party? Sure, but now they joined as “independents.”
Although on paper their militancy does not exist, both deputies immediately sheltered under this bench, from where they defend the ideas of the extreme right. In short, the media resignations were nothing more than a “tongo” to play in the face of an adverse situation, but at the time of acting in Congress they continue to function as such.
