Chihuahua Governor Dismisses Caravan of Families of Disappeared

Relatives of disappeared persons in Chihuahua made a caravan, from March 18 to 21, through several municipalities to reiterate their request for a meeting with the prosecutor and the Ministry of Government – which they requested since December – to ask that they be involved in the search actions and raise some problems; However, Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván dismissed the mobilization and called the people who participated “rare.”
During the two days that the caravan traveled, which traveled approximately 300 kilometers from Hidalgo del Parral to the city of Chihuahua, and was accompanied by the Center for Women’s Human Rights (Cedehm), there was no attempt to approach the authorities.

The governor doubted the authenticity of the relatives of the victims of disappearance and dismissed the caravan because she considered that the Cedehm has links with former governor Javier Corral.
“Yes caray… is it half weird no?, Lucha Castro (former counselor of the local Judiciary and founder of Cedehm), Víctor Quintana (former secretary of Social Development of Javier Corral). Again the corralista regime in all its heyday,” he said without saying anything about the mothers, daughters, wives and sisters who marched.
The governor’s response generated outrage from the families who addressed a letter to the official to whom they assured that none of the members of the caravan obeys political interests and demanded that she better guarantee rights and not disqualify the victims.

“We are not rare Lady, we are outraged by indolence, impunity and injustice; this is how we love our own: without limits, without renouncing the hope of finding them again and with absolute clarity, that the search and investigation is a responsibility of the State, that its government is not complying,” the letter says.
The relatives demand that he not disqualify his mobilization since there are real mothers with a history of pain that merit a response from the authorities.

“That it is not ‘strange’ that we go out on the street again if we continue not to be heard; because before and after you (even if you believe that it is all about you) we have demanded and will demand location alive and punishment of the guilty… and the strange thing would be not to do it,” they said.
