Chocolate cars: Why could they refuse the legalization of my car?

The government of Mexico authorized the regularization of the so-called “chocolate cars” that circulate in the national territory. However, in order for the owner of one of these vehicles to carry out the procedure, it must meet certain requirements.
First, the federal government has only authorized the legalization of chocolate cars in the following 12 states: Michoacán, Sonora, Baja California, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Baja California Sur, Durango, Coahuila, Chihuahua and Zacatecas.
Therefore, if the owner of this type of automotive unit does not reside in the previous states, he will be denied, by the Public Vehicle Registry (Repuve), the regularization of his car.

Likewise, according to the decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), chocolate cars belonging to sports or luxury models may not be regularized, as well as those that have some type of armor.
For its part, the car to be legalized must comply with the regulations in force in Mexico on the care of the environment, in addition to the fact that vehicles that have a theft report or are subject to investigations for having been possibly used for the commission of a crime will not be able to access this benefit.
For its part, the person must provide the following information when scheduling an appointment for the legalization of the auto chocolate: the CURP, address, the contact details of the person and the unit, as well as the Personal Identification Number.
Meanwhile, once it is summoned, the owner of the car will have to present, before the Repuve, the following documents: personal identification, the title of the automotive unit, a proof of address, as well as photographs of the vehicle that will be regularized so that it can circulate freely in the national territory. The person interested in the procedure will have to pay 2,500 pesos, as a single payment.

It should be noted that, since customs agents will no longer be in charge of the process of regularizing chocolate cars, the import request, which is issued by customs, will no longer be requested.
