Francisco Cerúndolo advanced to the semifinals of the Masters 1000 in Miami

The Argentine tennis player Francisco Cerúndolo got into the semifinals of the Masters 1000 in Miami after beating 4-1 and abandoning the Italian Jannik Sinner for the quarterfinals of the contest. Cerúndolo, ranked 103rd in the ATP rankings, started the match with some errors on his serve and gave his opponent a break chance, but he recovered and kept his serve in the first game. The match changed when they played the fourth game, since at that moment the Argentine was precise and Sinner began to miss his shots. In this way, the Buenos Aires native took the service of the world number 11 and went ahead 3-1 in the set.

After confirming the break and making it 4-1, Cerúndolo was surprised when the Italian made the decision to retire due to apparent physical discomfort. In this way, the finalist of the Argentina Open 2021 became the first Argentine to get into the semifinals in his debut in a main draw of a Masters 1000 tournament.In addition, with his classification to this instance, Cerúndolo ensures to reach the 51st place in the world, the best ranking of his professional career. For a place in the final, the Argentine will face the winner of the match between the German Alexander Zverev (4th) and the Norwegian Casper Ruud (8th), who will face later.
