Municipality of La Pintana will install innovative Energy Educational Module

In the Municipality of La Pintana these days the initial works of the first Energy Educational Module of the commune are being carried out, which will be operational during the month of May. This photovoltaic system, which will be located in dependencies of the Directorate of Environmental Management (DIGA), will generate 7,760 kWh per year, which is equivalent to a saving of $ 728,276 for the municipality per year. Also, due to its community character, it will become a space for environmental education for neighbors, schools, universities and social organizations.
“As a result of the installation of this module, 3,133 tonCO2eq per year will be reduced, which is approximately equivalent to avoiding 17,000 km of displacement of a private vehicle, each year of operation,” explains Nicolás O’Ryan, partner and Project Engineer of Red Genera, in charge of the elaboration and implementation of the project.
This initiative is possible thanks to the Energy Commune Program of the Energy Sustainability Agency and the Ministry of Energy, which seeks to promote the development of renewable energies at the local level and in collaboration with citizens.
In this way, the photovoltaic system of 5.4 kWp, which has the capacity to be extended and a useful life of 30 years, will serve as pedagogical material to complement the guided tours that are already carried out in this space of environmental education, aimed at neighbors, educational institutions of the commune and foundations, where so far municipal initiatives in the field of composting are exhibited, vermiculture and urban gardens, among others.
“To prepare the DIGA officials who will carry out the guided tours, we will carry out a training and install infographics explaining the operation and benefits of photovoltaic energy,” says Nicolás O’Ryan.
In addition, the Energy Educational Module project includes work with social organizations in La Pintana around renewable energies. “In these territorial energy workshops, it is expected that at least 15 groups of the commune will participate, with the aim of generating a common diagnosis about the barriers they have to access projects of this type and identify potential opportunities to realize community energy initiatives,” says the expert.
Also included in this program is the creation by the municipality of a Communal Energy Committee, in order to work on future plans of this type. Finally, a seminar will be held where the challenges and learnings achieved from the development of this module will be presented.
