The Secretary of Women of Nuevo León resigns

Alicia Leal Puerta announced on Tuesday her resignation from the Women’s Secretariat of Nuevo León, while the state is going through a wave of violence against women that is reflected in femicides and disappearances.
The now former official made her resignation public through a letter disseminated on Twitter. In it, he said that he communicated his decision to Governor Samuel García – whose mandate began on October 4, 2021 – and that he will continue working “in the defense and protection of the rights of women, adolescents and girls.”

Leal’s announcement came around the same time that the arrest of the alleged killer of young Maria Fernanda Contreras was being reported.
The arrest occurred in Coahuila and the man is expected to be taken to Nuevo Leon. According to the governor, the weight of the law will be applied to this person.
The disappearance and subsequent murder of María Fernanda have caused outrage in recent days, but the case is far from the only one.

Over the past few weeks, about 15 cases of missing women have been reported in Nuevo León.
Faced with the situation, the governor announced on Monday the creation of a special search group for women and the increase of 200 elements for the current search group for people.

Another case that has captured public attention is that of Debanhi Escobar, 18, who disappeared in the municipality of Escobedo after being abandoned by a driver who had to transfer her.
