Chilean Academy of Language mourns the death of writer Renato Cárdenas

The Chilean Academy of Language lamented on Thursday the death of the writer Renato Cárdenas, member of the corresponding entity for Chiloé. The regional presidential delegate, Giovanna Moreira, reported regional mourning for four days.
Cárdenas was born in Calen (Chiloé). He studied Language and Literature at the University of Chile (Valparaíso headquarters) and Art at the School of Fine Arts of Valparaíso. He also studied audiovisual at the University of London, England.
He dedicated his life to researching the culture of the island of Chiloé. He carried out historical and ethnographic surveys of rural communities, wrote hundreds of articles, numerous books and participated in documentaries (officiating as a screenwriter, driver or director) about the cultural heritage of the island.
His outstanding career earned him the Margot Loyola Award in 2020.
A few weeks ago, colleagues and friends of the academic presented “La comarca encantada”, the latest book by Cárdenas that brings together stories, memories and history of the archipélago de Chiloé.
“The Chilean Academy of Language regrets this loss and sends its deepest condolences to family and friends of the academic,” the entity said.
