Premiere date for the series “The Long Call”

Europe Europe premieres the miniseries “The Long Call” on Tuesday from June 7 at 22.00 hs. It is a crime and suspense story based on the novel of the same name by Ann Cleeves, which follows the story of Detective Matthew Venn, who must investigate a murder while facing some dramatic and painful events from his own past. Due to the death of his father, he and his husband Jonathan return to the small religious village of North Devon where he was born. The return for his father’s funeral, after his family had rejected him, makes the situation uncomfortable, since his parents, evangelicals, saw his homosexuality with bad eyes.

To that painful circumstance, the investigation that must be conducted is added, after the body of a man is found on the beach near Matthew’s house. The research will cast doubt on the entire community. Lead actor Ben Aldridge told reporters he connected with the character’s story on a personal level. “The things I’ve encountered in my own family, along with the difficulties parents may have with LGBTQ+ children resulted in very important scenes for me and that I related to.” Sometimes our work is creative and we have to research to gather tools to express and play that role, but this was very introspective to me. It was very comforting to be able to share that with other people in a work environment, it felt meaningful,” he continued in a press release. The series is nominated for the GLAAD Media Awards, which honor films, TV shows, video games, musicians and newspaper articles that include and represent in detail the LGBT community and topics relevant to that community, such as Best New TV Series.
