Pollution in Quintero and Puchuncaví: Senator Chahuán files criminal complaint against Codelco

The senator of National Renewal (RN) and president of the senate health commission, Francisco Chahuán, filed a criminal complaint against Codelco Division Windows for the cases of pollution that affected Quintero and Puchuncaví.
To remember that during this Monday at least 50 students and 25 educational workers with symptoms of poisoning were registered being treated in Quintero healthcare centers, this after reporting sulfur dioxide concentration in the Ventanas Division plant.

Faced with this case, the president of RN called on the Government of President Gabriel Boric to put an end to these environmental problems.
“Enough of the abuse with the inhabitants of Quintero and Puchuncaví. We call on the government to end the so-called environmental sacrifice zones. We hope that this criminal action that we have initiated will reach the last consequences so that ultimately the responsibility is effective, “said the parliamentarian.
It also urges the Superintendence of the Environment to be more effective in monitoring emission levels and products that affect the population.
Under this line, Chahuán announced that he will file a criminal complaint against the company, added to a resource of protection against the victims from next Saturday together with social organizations of both communes, where the paralysis of the plant will be demanded until the new protocols are established to avoid these episodes.

Finally, he said that he summoned the ministers of Health and Environment, along with the mayors of Quintero and Puchuncaví for a special session of the Senate health commission, which is chaired by Chahuán himself.
