Jens Stoltenberg, head of NATO, told a German media that the war in Ukraine could be prolonged in time and invited countries to publicly support Kiev. “We have to be prepared for this to last for years,” the international body’s representative said. We must not falter in our support for Ukraine, even if the costs are high, not only in terms of military support but also in the rise in energy and food prices,” Stoltenberg reflected.

The member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization stressed that none of the consequences that the rest of the nations may suffer compares to what Ukrainians suffer on a daily basis. In that sense, he pointed out that, in case Vladimir Putin manages to realize his plans in the Ukrainian territory as when in 2014 he annexed Crimea, “we would have to pay an even greater price,” he said. He finally urged the countries of the alliance to continue sending weapons to Kiev and said: “With additional modern weapons, it would increase the likelihood that Ukraine can repel Putin’s troops from Donbass.” That region is currently under the partial control of Russian forces.
