Authorities in San Antonio, Texas, found at least 46 dead migrants inside the box of a trailer. 16 more people were taken to hospitals for medical care, of which 12 are adults and 4 are children.
At a news conference, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said they received a call around 6 p.m., where a worker heard screams for help and found the car with the doors half-open and looked at the dead.

“We have three people in custody, we do not know if they are linked to this case or not, this investigation has been referred to federal authorities for a couple of hours,” the policeman said.
According to the fire department, the migrant patients had hyperthermia and heat stroke, because there was no sign of water at the scene, despite the fact that it was a refrigerated truck.

The Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard, said that the people died asphyxiated and that in the group of survivors two Guatemalans have been identified.
However, the nationality of the victims is still unknown.
“The trailer has US plates, superimposed to circulate without review. Very likely authorship of traffickers,” he posted.

According to the secretary, the injured were sent to University, Methodist Center, Baptiste Center and Santa Rosa West Overhills hospitals.
On December 9, 55 Central American migrants died in an accident in Chiapas while traveling in the trailer box. In addition there were more than 100 people with different injuries.
