Giuseppe Tornatore’s classic, “Cinema Paradiso”, which has a place in the hearts of cinephiles and cinephiles around the world, is preparing its own series, more than 30 years after its premiere. This was confirmed by the American specialized magazine Variety, revealing that the renowned producer based in Rome, Marco Belardi (“Perfect Strangers”), is developing the project. “It will be the same story of the film, but in an expanded form with several different narrative threads,” Belardi explained to the media, while indicating that he works with Tornatore to film it and release it next 2023.

“Cinema Paradiso” was installed as one of the most moving and unforgettable films, which recognized it as Best Foreign Language Film at the 1988 Oscars, thus portraying the post-war crisis in Italy, and in the words of the producer: “the strength of a mother, the solidarity of a friend, sex as taboo, forced relocations, escapes and marked social differences.” The film tells the story of Salvatore Di Vita, whom one night his mother calls to tell her that Alfredo has died. The call, which comes to him from a distance, brings him back to his hometown, when he was called Toto as a child, to everything he left behind.

It features performances by Jacques Perrin, Philippe Noiret, Leopoldo Trieste, Marco Leonardi, Agnese Nano and Salvatore Cascio; and the moving soundtrack by maestro Ennio Morricone and his son Andrea Morricone.
