The opposition abstained in the election of Moreau as head of Deputies

After the appointment of Sergio Massa as Superminister of Economy, Production and Agriculture, Deputy Cecilia Moreau took her place in the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies. However, at the time of the vote, the legislators of Together for Change abstained. In that sense, the head of the Frente de Todos in the lower house, Germán Martínez, said that the opposition’s move was a “pettiness.” In dialogue with AM 990, the legislator said that “sometimes there is a lack of perspective and in political positions pettiness prevails, a short-term positioning and we miss seeing the construction of a longer history.”

In turn, Martínez explained that “not only did we elect Moreau president of Deputies, the first woman to hold the Presidency, but we resolved to replace a president of the chamber who is in the presidential succession scheme.” To this he added that “instead of putting the passion in solving this situation, there has been in certain sectors of the opposition a very important political pettiness.” However, it was not only the deputies of Together for Change who did not accompany the appointment of Moreau as Massa’s replacement, but the Left and Workers Front (FIT) did the same. For their part, the deputies of La Libertad Avanza voted against.
