They announced who are the nominated artists in the 58 categories that make up the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The ceremony will be held at the Watsco Center in Miami’s Coral Gables on Sept. 29. The gala is a “unique opportunity to honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music,” Billboard said in a statement. This year the awards cover the main musical genres in Latin Pop, Tropical, Latin Rhythm or Regional Mexican, among others.
The list is headed by Bad Bunny, who has 23 nominations, including artist of the year and album of the year, for his album “Un verano sin ti”. This work earned the Puerto Rican to be a finalist also in the category “Latin rhythm album of the year”, while the cuts “Me porto bonito”, “Tití me preguntó”, “Ojitos lindos” and “Party” achieved eight nominations, including “Hot latin song of the year” and “Streaming song of the year”. For her part, Colombian Karol G appears in 15 categories including “Artist of the Year”, “Top Latin Album of the Year” and “Latin Rhythm Album of the Year” for her successful album KG0516.
The edge also achieved seven mentions thanks to her song “Mamiii” with the American Becky G. The collaboration between the two aspires to the awards “Hot latin song of the year”, “Latin airplay song of the Year” and “Latin pop song”, in addition to “Song of the year streaming” and “Latin pop song of the year”, among others. Meanwhile, Becky G – American artist but reference of Latin music – will compete in the categories of “Hot Latin songs artist of the year”, “Fémina” and “Top latin albums artist of the year” with Becky G, who in turn has 7 of her 11 nominations thanks to the successful song “Mamiii”.
With 11 nominations is also the Puerto Rican reggaeton player Farruko, who will compete with Bad Bunny several of the main awards, including “Artist of the Year” and “Hot Latin song of the year” for “Pepas”, and “Top Latin album of the year” for “La 167”. Rauw Alejandro stands out as a finalist for ten Billboard awards, including the categories of “Artist of the Year”, “Hot Latin songs”, “Masculine”, “Top Latin albums of the year” and “Latin thythm Album” of the year for his work “Vice Versa”.
In the tropical categories stands out, with seven nominations, the Dominican-American bachata musical group Aventura, which competes for “Tropical Artist of the Year” and “Duo or Group” and received four mentions for “Volví”, its successful collaboration in the bachata genre with Bad Bunny.The American Mexican music group Eslabón Armado leads the category of Regional Mexican Music with six mentions, including “Regional Mexican Artist of the Year”, “Duo or Group”, “Hot Latin Songs of the Year” or “Top Latin Albums of the Year”, thanks to his albums, “Nostalgia” and “Tu veneno mortal, vol. 2”.
Other artists with multiple nominations are Chencho Corleone, J Balvin and Marc Anthony (5); Sebastian Yatra (4); Enrique Iglesias, Ivan Cornejo, Kali Uchis and Rosalía (3), and with two nominations Bomba Estéreo, Carin León, Carlos Vives, Jhayco, Junior H, Los Bukis, Maluma, Maná, Marco Borrero, Romeo Santos, Skrillex, Tainy and Yaritza and Su Esencia.
