Alberto Fernández expressed his “deepest affection and solidarity” towards Cristina Kirchner and condemned the “judicial persecution”

President Alberto Fernández expressed his “deepest affection and solidarity” towards the vice president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, at the request of federal prosecutor Diego Luciani that she be sentenced to 12 years in prison and be disqualified in perpetuity from holding public office, within the framework of the case for the alleged direction of public works in the province of Santa Cruz between 2003 and 2015. Today is a very thankless day for someone who, like me, has grown up in the family of a judge, has been educated in the world of law and teaches Criminal Law for more than three decades,” said the president of the Nation from his Twitter account, where he expressed once again: “I return to transmit my deepest affection and solidarity to Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.”

In this way, Fernández released a statement where he points out that “the National Government condemns the judicial and media persecution against Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner that was expressed today, once again, in the final argument and request for punishment in the so-called Road Cause.”

“As President Alberto Fernández repeatedly stated, the judicial persecution endorsed and promoted by different media, the abusive typification of the figure of illicit association, the imposition of preventive detention as an advance penalty, the accusation based on objective responsibilities and the application of copyright criminal law, are all aspects that contradict the dogmatics of criminal law applicable in a Republic founded in the State of Right. None of the acts attributed to the former president has been proven and all the accusation that is charged to her refers only to the function she exercised in that period, which unfortunately degrades the most elementary principles of modern Criminal Law, “he continues. In this context, it reaffirms that “the Government reiterates its commitment to the constitutional principle of innocence and to the full validity of the democratic functioning of justice, the right of defence and equality before the law, and will continue to strive for a judicial reform that guarantees these values for all”.

“It also expresses its solidarity with the vice president in the face of this persecution and search for proscription that is part of similar attempts carried out against other popular leaders when justice is put at the service of the powers that be,” he says.
