Federico Delbonis entered the main draw of the US Open

Argentine tennis player Federico Delbonis beat Dutchman Jesper De Jong 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-4, in the final round of the US Open standings, and got into the main draw of the last and fourth Grand Slam of the year, which will begin next Monday. Delbonis, ranked 136th in the ATP rankings, prevailed over De Jong (212th) in a tough duel that began with ups and downs for the Azul native. The player settled in the final round of the qualy after having left on the road the Hungarian Zsombor Piros (158°) and the American Ethan Quinn (506°). In this way, one of the members of the Argentine team that won the Davis Cup 2016 will play his 33rd Grand Slam in singles and for the eighth time he will do it in the US Open, a contest where only in two years he could reach the second round. On the other hand, in the coming hours, the Argentine Facundo Bagnis (106°) will face the experienced Italian Andreas Seppi (196°) for a place in the main draw. In case of winning, he will play for the fourth time the contest. The best performance of the santafesino was in last year’s edition, where he reached the third round. It is worth mentioning that Delbonis will be the seventh Argentine to play the main singles draw of this US Open, since Diego Schwartzman (16th), Francisco Cerúndolo (27th), Sebastián Báez (37th), Pedro Cachín (66th), Federico Coria (78th) and Tomás Etcheverry (86th) entered directly, by ranking.
