“I still can’t believe it”: spoke the councilman who reduced Cristina Kirchner’s attacker

Federico García is a Kirchnerist councillor for President Perón Guernica. In recent hours he became known throughout the country as one of the men who managed to reduce André Sabag Montiel, the man who tried to assassinate Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on Thursday. In a dialogue with Clarín, García provided details of the maneuver and said: “I do not regret a second of having advanced with my partner Matías on top of this guy.” García was part of the team of militants who collaborated in the logistics of accompanying the vice president to enter and leave her home. While the people who managed to observe the assassination attempt shouted “he has an iron”, he did not hesitate and pushed forward until he could run into Montiel. “There was no tension. An operation had been deployed, everything was being coordinated. Someone would pass by and shout an insult, but they were tiny episodes,” he said of the previous moments. “With another teammate we moved forward and we were able to reduce it. Then we removed it and took it about ten meters away from people and handed it over to the police,” he explained. While the assailant was being taken away by the police, García returned to the place where he managed to reduce it and protected the weapon, which had remained on the floor. “I go back to the place and see a person in the corner pointing something from the floor to me. I approach and see that the gun was lying on the sidewalk. I put one foot on him and start calling the police again. A custodian comes and takes care of the gun,” he added. “I still can’t believe it. I didn’t sleep. We became very late to declare, I took a bath and left for the Plaza de Mayo,” he added. He is the only defendant in the file labeled as “attempted homicide, although investigators do not rule out any hypothesis.
