will no longer complain to the US on energy policy

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will no longer respond to U.S. demands on the issue of consultations and energy policy during the Sept. 16 military parade in the Zocalo, as he had announced.
The president said that after receiving a letter from U.S. President Joe Biden, where he stressed respect for Mexico’s sovereignty, he considered it inconvenient to make a position on this issue.

“We appreciate President Biden’s respectful attitude and that is why there is no point in continuing to encourage differences,” he said this morning during his morning conference.
López Obrador said that he will continue to seek the unity that suits everyone and considered that there can be no fights because the interest of the peoples is first.

“It is better that the adversaries continue to rub their hands, which by the way are not only from abroad, they are from here, although it seems incredible and they are potentates, but also organic intellectuals, internationalists, very submissive Mexicans accustomed to lowering their heads as it was in the neoliberal period when our foreign policy has made history in the world,” he told his adversaries.
Canada and the United States filed a formal complaint under the North American Trade Agreement (USMCA) for considering that the energy policy harms their companies and benefits the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), so the president announced that he would respond to those claims on September 16.

The president indicated that during the military parade he will talk about peace in the world and give his position on the war between Russia and Ukraine. He will also present an initiative to discuss at the UN the integration of a mediation committee, headed by the Prime Minister of India and Pope Francis, to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“No missiles, no interventions, no participation in internal conflicts, five years of peace for governments to deal entirely with addressing the great and serious problems of the peoples of the world. And that will be formally presented at the United Nations assembly by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo,” he said.
