Mexico to Propose 5-Year Truce for World Peace: AMLO

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced on Friday that the government of Mexico, through Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, will bring before the UN a formal proposal to end the war in Ukraine and establish a truce of at least five years in favor of world peace.
López Obrador made the announcement this morning during his message for the civic-military parade on the occasion of the 212th anniversary of the beginning of the war of independence.

According to President López Obrador, such a move would allow all countries to focus their efforts on solving global problems.
About the war in Ukraine, he disqualified russia’s invasion, but also criticized the decisions of Western nations.
The Mexican president also referred to another international issue: the situation of activist Julian Assange, whom he described as a “modern Quixote” for what he considered his struggle for freedom of expression.
Assange’s family was among the special guests at this morning’s civic-military parade, along with other public figures such as former presidents Evo Morales of Bolivia and Jose Mujica of Uruguay.
