Maseca pledged not to increase the price of corn flour: AMLO

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced that Maseca’s director, Juan González Moreno, pledged not to raise the price of corn flour until at least February 2023.
In a morning press conference, the president explained that today he will have a meeting with food producers and distributors to talk about the measures that can be implemented against inflation.
“Today I believe that the director of Maseca will be present who is committed to no increase in corn flour at least until February. Minsa is also participating. The meeting is so important that we are even going to eat some tamales of masa colada,” said the president.

According to López Obrador, the meeting will be attended by approximately 20 producers and distributors to achieve a commitment of “no price increase” and even “analyze whether the price can be lowered in 24 basic products.”

From the National Palace, the president said that another of the measures to combat inflation in addition to not raising the price of flour by Maseca, is to deliver fertilizers free of charge in the field.
“The measure is to produce more, to promote self-consumption, food self-sufficiency. We will also work on two more measures after those after I make them known,” he said.

On September 7, the president said that his main concern is the increase in the price of the tortilla so he announced that “he would talk to the industrialists of the sector to see what can be done.”
However, the secretary of the Association of Masa y la Tortilla Industrialists in the State of Mexico and Metropolitan Area, Alfredo Ceja, said that the rising price of the tortilla does not depend on them.
