Speaking of energy at the 77th United Nations General Assembly and “Sustainability Week” in New York

World leaders are meeting again in New York after two years of virtual events, at the 77th United Nations (UN) General Assembly and the “Sustainability Week”, which is taking place from September 19 to 23.
The Enel Group will share its views and perceptions on the main topics on the event’s agenda, such as the global food, energy and finance crisis, the promotion of sustained economic growth and sustainable development, the promotion of justice and a new business approach to governance.
The company is among the sponsors of Climate Week, the most important event related to climate worldwide, which this year celebrates its 14th edition. Created by The Climate Group, the initiative aims to promote greater commitment to the environment, putting in place all the necessary tasks to face climate change.
Participation
On 19 September, Enel’s CEO and Director General Francesco Starace met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, along with other CEOs of the UN Global Compact (UNGC).
That same day, he joined the Global Compact’s Global Africa Business Initiative event, participating in a panel discussion on the just energy transition for Africa.
Starace was also part of the Private Sector Forum (PSF), which convenes the most committed CEOs of UNGC companies and representatives of governments and UN agencies, through a panel on the financing and investments needed to promote renewable energy and sustainable development.
In addition, Francesco Starace is president of SEforALL (Sustainable Energy for All), the international initiative that plays an active role during the week of the UN General Assembly, with the aim of intensifying electrification efforts, ensuring universal access to reliable, modern and affordable energy services, and thus achieving goal number 7 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Enel Group was also represented by its CfO, Alberto De Paoli, who participated in the SDG Investment Forum of the UN Global Compact, the meeting that brings together CFOs, sustainability experts and investors to exchange views on how investments and corporate finance can contribute to the SDGs.

This year’s event was also attended by Enel’s General Counsel, Giulio Fazio, who on 19 September inaugurated the “Legal Hour” at the PSF dedicated to the new initiative of the Global Compact on Transformational Governance, which aims to expand the role of legal professionals in sustainability, driving business decisions, that Enel will lead as Patron.
The high level of participation in the International Meeting in New York once again highlights the Group’s alignment with the climate and sustainable development issues being discussed at the United Nations, as well as the leadership role that Enel wants to continue to play in reinforcing its strong commitment to an emission-free future, supported by the acceleration of the development of renewables and electrification.
