Héctor Llaitul case: Government affirms that they will ask to extend investigation in case of lack of proceedings

The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, indicated that the Government will request an extension of the investigation against the spokeswoman of the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM), Héctor Llaitul, in case there are pending proceedings and if the Prosecutor’s Office does not need to expand the investigations.
This Saturday marks the deadline of the 30 days of investigation set by the Court of Guarantee of Temuco, within the framework of the formalization hearing against Llaitul. The CAM leader is in pre-trial detention.

“What would justify an extension of the investigation period, that there are pending proceedings (..) if there were pending proceedings and the Public Ministry did not request the extension of the deadline for the investigation, we will request it,” Monsalve said from the province of Arauco, Biobío region.
Recall that officials of the Investigation Police (PDI) arrested Llaitul on August 24 in Cañete, in the Biobío. This, following an investigation by the Public Ministry, initiated in 2020 after the then Government filed a complaint under the State Security Law.
The next day, Llaitul was formalized in the Court of Guarantee of Temuco for infractions of the State Security Law, violent usurpation, attacks against the authority by armed hand and simple theft.
