President Gabriel Boric and triumph of rejection: “Pretending to be ahead of your time is a way of being wrong”

In the framework of what was his visit to New York, the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, participated in an interview where he was consulted for various things, among them, 62% of the votes obtained by the Rejection in the exit plebiscite.
As a result of this and in conversation with CNN International, the President pointed out that “you can not go faster than your people, we have to go a little slower” and that “pretending to be ahead of your time is a way to be wrong.”
“We want changes, deepen them, it is my interpretation, but we want to maintain what we have gained in recent decades and we know that the changes are not from one day to the next. Therefore, we will have to go slower, and that is fine and we will fulfill a new agreement to have a new Constitution during our term and I am sure that we will achieve it,” he said.
“It’s going to take longer than we had thought, but that’s democracy. One of the things I am most proud of is that in the most difficult times Chile has experienced in the last two decades, we have decided to resolve our differences with more democracy, not less.”
Likewise, the head of state defended the proposal for a new Constitution from those who said it was “too left-wing”.
“I don’t think that’s true, it was a Constitution built by 2/3. Before that we had a great election that expressed that. It should also be remembered that we had another plebiscite where 80% of Chileans said we want a new Constitution made by a special body elected for that,” he said.
