Toyota suspended production due to tire shortages

The automaker Toyota will paralyze from tomorrow its production of vehicles at the Zárate plant, in the province of Buenos Aires, because of the lack of tires. The company announced the news to its suppliers through a letter in which it refers to the wage dispute. According to NA, the company said in the text: “In reference to the conflict between the tire union and our suppliers of that input, we inform you that Toyota Argentina will interrupt the production of its Zárate plant from the first shift of tomorrow, until the supply of those parts can be restored.”
At the same time, Toyota hoped for a “prompt solution” to the conflict and apologized “for the inconvenience that this situation may cause in its production plants.” At the Zárate plant, the Japanese brand produces the Hilux pickup and the SW4 SUV, which are models that are distributed in the local market and exported to numerous countries in Latin America. However, due to the shortage of tires, it adds to Ford’s decision, which paralyzed its General Pacheco plant. There, about 300 vans are produced per day, of which 70% is destined for export.
For their part, other terminals, such as Renault, Fiat, Volkswagen and Peugeot, are evaluating similar measures in the face of the extension of the union conflict, which has been going on for five months.
