In this way, Murillo Karam managed to suspend the criminal procedure that is being followed against him, once the intermediate stage was closed, for the disappearance of the 43 normalistas of Ayotzinapa.

The former prosecutor will continue in prison because the federal judge is studying whether or not to grant him the definitive amparo that he processed for his “illegal detention”, in addition it remains to be seen if there will be challenges and the review of the Courts.
Since August 20, Murillo Karam remained in prison after the judge considered that the precautionary measure of preventive detention justified against the former prosecutor would avoid procedural risks argued by prosecutors, for example, that he could escape from justice due to his economic capacity and relationships.
The evidence against Murillo Karam
Among the evidence presented by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to achieve the link to the process of former prosecutor Jesús Murillo Karam for torture, forced disappearance and crimes against the administration of justice for the Ayotzinapa case, are the statements of detainees who were tortured and former officials who falsified documents, but who do not point directly to it.

However, Judge Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia supported the Prosecution’s thesis that Murillo Karam should have known that his subordinates committed crimes; that is why they also consider as evidence the four press conferences offered as prosecutor where he reported on the investigation of the disappearance of the students and released the ‘historical truth’.
With these arguments, the judge issued the link to the process on August 24 and preventive detention justified as a precautionary measure that will keep Jesús Murillo Karam in the North Prison for at least the next 90 days while the investigation in the process continues. While his defense, he said, will challenge the resolution.
