Former mayor of Zinacantepec sentenced to 42 years in prison for attempted murder

Gerardo Nava Sánchez, former mayor of the municipality of Zinacantepec, State of Mexico, was sentenced to 42 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of attempted homicide.
A judge handed down the conviction after the former mayor was found guilty of the assault on a member of the Zinacantepec building corps.
It was determined that Nava Sánchez, in complicity with her nephew José Arturo Pichardo Nava, planned the aggression. The incident occurred in March 2020.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Mexico detailed that the aggression was registered on March 6, 2020 when the victim left his home and when circulating on Adolfo López Mateos Avenue was intercepted by four people, one of them shot him with a firearm, so he was injured.

After the investigation of the facts, the Agent of the Public Ministry requested the Judicial Authority to issue an arrest warrant against Gerardo Nava, who was arrested on January 5, 2021 in the streets of the Gustavo A. Madero mayor’s office, in Mexico City.
The former mayor was admitted to the Santiaguito Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center, in Almoloya de Juárez.
The prosecutor’s office indicated that on September 15, a sentence of 42 years and 6 months in prison was also obtained for José Arturo Pichardo Nava, responsible for these same acts.
