President Boric appoints Jaime Veas as Director of Public Education

President Gabriel Boric appointed Professor Jaime Veas Sánchez as director of the Directorate of Public Education (DEP). This, after the respective competition for Senior Public Management (ADP).
Veas is a professor of secondary education in History and Geography at the University of Chile and a master’s degree in Education with a mention in Educational Management from the Metropolitan University of Education Sciences (UMCE).
He has served as deputy head of the General Education Division of the Ministry of Education (Mineduc), director of Continuing Education of the UMCE and dean of the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences of the Central University.
Between 2014 and 2016 he was advisor to the Mineduc for the National Teaching Policy, and between 2015 and 2018 he was head of the Center for Improvement, Experimentation and Pedagogical Research (CPEIP) of the Mineduc, an institution that implements the professional development of teachers.
Directorate of Public Education
The mission of the Directorate of Public Education is the construction and implementation of the National Public Education System.
Currently, 11 Local Public Education Services (SLEP) have been implemented and another six are preparing to receive their educational establishments. Veas will be in charge of continuing with the installation of the system.
The process to fill this position began in May of this year with the publication of the respective notice in national media and on the website of the Civil Service, receiving, in total, 314 applications.

After the evaluations of the candidates, the Council of Senior Public Management interviewed seven candidates, sending last August the list of finalists to the President to make the appointment.
