Harakiri – The Counter

Mr. Director,
The Senate passed TPP-11.
No surprise considering the composition of the upper house; However, what is surprising is how President Boric has approached the situation from the moment when, responding to his ideology, he was perfectly able to withdraw the treaty.
Will it be naïve? Maybe. Taking into account that Gabriel Boric since his time as a deputy has been against the TPP-11, it is hard to believe that he did not make a forecast of what would happen if he sent the treaty to Congress, so it is easier to think that the president clung to the minimal – and deluded – possibility that it would not be approved.
With the TPP-11 approved, Boric is clearly in check; of No sign the treaty, the opposition will accuse it of being an autocrat and will do everything possible to delegitimize – more than they have already done – the Government; and if the treaty is signed, Gabriel Boric will lose an important part of that 35% approval, sinking even more the poor and brief support that his mandate has had.
Will he have an ace up his sleeve? Only he knows.
The truth is that, like a samurai, the president seems to be on the path of a regrettable Harakiri politician.
