The former president of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016) has already presented herself to the elections to cast her vote in the election in which Bolsonaro and Lula da Silva, her co-religionist, dispute the leadership of the country. “I have a great expectation of victory. When I left the Planalto Palace (seat of government), because of that absolutely illegal and fraudulent impeachment, I said we would return. For me, today is the day that moment of our return arrived,” Rousseff said after voting at a school in the city of Belo Horizonte, southeast of the state of Minas Gerais.
“The two elections of Lula and my two elections were not won in the first round, although we always almost arrived. But people always won in the second round.”
In the first round that took place on October 2, Lula won with 48.4%, equivalent to 57.2 million votes. This number was not enough to win since according to Brazilian law, to prevail in the first round, a candidate must reach at least 50% of the votes. Bolsonaro, meanwhile, obtained 43.3%, that is, about 51.07 million. The elections will take place until 5 pm (same time in Argentina) and more than 156.4 million people are eligible to vote.
