National Guard vehicle runs over and kills a vendor

A vehicle of the National Guard (GN) ran over and caused the death of a candy seller in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the federal security institution reported Monday.
The events occurred on Monday in Calzada Independencia and Periférico, two of the main roads of the capital of Jalisco, according to a report by the newspaper Mural.
Hours later, the GN issued an information card confirming the seller’s death.

“This public security institution regrets the event and informs that it will support the bereaved without delay and in a timely manner,” the GN said.
According to the message, the driver of the unit was taken to the Public Ministry to investigate the facts and determine responsibilities.
“At the same time, the supervision and control measures of the drivers of our units will be increased to avoid this type of situation that hurts the feelings of the citizens to whom we owe ourselves,” concluded the GN.

The institution was created in mid-2019 through a constitutional reform promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The president affirms that this body will gradually become the main responsible for public security at the federal level.
However, this year has starred in various controversies, such as acts of possible excessive use of force against citizens or the fact that the government, Morena and some other parties promoted a reform so that, although the GN was born with a civilian character, it becomes part of the Army.
