‘Lisa’ downgrades to tropical storm; causes rains and suspension of classes

“Lisa” was downgraded to a tropical storm after making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in Belize, causing flooding; moves to Mexico over Tabasco and Campeche.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that “Lisa” will cause torrential rains in Tabasco and Chiapas, intense in Oaxaca, Veracruz and Campeche, very heavy point rains in Quintana Roo and strong points in Yucatan.
He warned that the rains could increase the levels of rivers and streams, landslides and flooding in low-lying areas of the indicated states.

In a statement, the agency said that, according to her trajectory, tonight “Lisa” could enter the Gulf of Mexico.

Suspension of classes for “Lisa”
In the states of Tabasco, Campeche and Quintana Roo, the suspension of classes due to tropical storm “Lisa” was announced.

The government of Tabasco reported that due to the tropical storm the State Education Secretariat (SETAB) suspended classes at all levels of education, resuming work next Friday.

The Ministry of Education Campeche announced that, by order of the State Council of Civil Protection, classes were suspended in the municipalities of Candelaria, Carmen, Escárcega and Palizada, Calakmul and Hopelchén
Governor Layda Sansores indicated that work would also be suspended in general in Calakmul, Hopelchén, Candelaria, Escárcega, Carmen and Palizada due to “Lisa.”

‘Lisa’ in Belize and Guatemala
“Lisa” entered the mainland on Wednesday, near the mouth of the Sibun River about 15 kilometers southwest of Belize City, uprooting trees, knocking down power lines and flooding streets.
Belize’s government declared a state of emergency in two districts, while a curfew remained in place until early Thursday.
In Guatemala, rains associated with Lisa caused flooding and a landslide in the municipalities of Melchor de Mencos and San José in the northern department of Petén, bordering Belize and Mexico.
