Two fires devastated hectares of grasslands on the border between Salta and Jujuy

Hundreds of hectares of pastures were destroyed today by two large fires in various places of Salta, in an area of Yungas, near the border with Jujuy, due to adverse weather and extreme drought in the area, provincial authorities reported today. ” On the Piedras River, the fire crossed two places at the height of Finca La Abandonada, affecting at least 120 hectares of grasslands and native forests,” said Alejandro Cooke, director of Vegetation Fires and Environmental Emergencies of Jujuy. The brigades are fighting the flames in the Salta areas of Río Piedras, Valle Morado, Angosto del Paranai, and in Calilegua, a region known as the Yungas of Jujuy, a border area between the provinces of the extreme north of the country. In turn, the official said that the fire “is heading towards the Calilegua National Park” and maintained that “the foci are being contained in the Zanjón Seco area and have not advanced to the area known as Aroma del Anta, without affecting the wells.” At the same time, he warned that the brigades work in an “adverse” climatic situation, due to the high temperatures in the area that this Friday exceeded 32 degrees and the extreme drought. That “only allows us to contain the flames of the fire as much as possible,” he said. In recent days, the armed forces expanded and diversified the actions they carry out in support of the National Fire Management Service (SNMF) to contain the forest fires that are registered on the border between Salta and Jujuy.
